Our Beginning

We are not only business partners but we have been best friends since we were only 5 years old. This special relationship and bond of 27 years has allowed us to be present for many of each other’s big life events including each other’s births long before even starting our doula journey together. (Really we were doulas before we actually knew what being a doula even meant). Having 7 children between us, we know how different each pregnancy, birth, child and even postpartum period can be.

After varying birth experiences of our own in hospitals, birth centers and even at home, we quickly realized there was something crucial missing in the birth room for other women. Support. We had that support with each other and felt why not give that same support – the love, advocacy and compassion – to all laboring women? So we became doulas. We are incredibly passionate about birth and we feel down to our core that every woman deserves to birth the way she wants to and that her birth experience should be a joyous and fulfilling experience which she can look back on without regret.

Birth & Beyond Doula Services of Southwest Florida finally became a reality in the Spring of 2016.

The word “doula” is a Greek word that means “woman caregiver” or “a woman who serves.”

We provide continuous emotional, physical and educational support to women and their partners throughout pregnancy, labor and birth as well as the postpartum period. We possesses significant knowledge and experience that allows us to communicate, educate and advocate with a high degree of professionalism and kindness. We are the often the liaisons between the medical staff and the expecting family. We are there to help families keep their ideal birth plan within reach. Studies have proven that women who hire doulas are less likely to have unnecessary medical interventions that can snowball into undesirable birth experiences.

Our purpose is to assist women in labor in order to have safe, memorable and empowering birth stories. We are a calm, nurturing, and reassuring presence for new parents but most importantly we are a continual source of support.

We doulas carry this knowledge and training in addition to many “tricks up our sleeves” to help laboring women find comfort and focus during their birth.

Natural pain relief techniques include (but are not limited to):

  • aromatherapy

  • counter-pressure

Coping Techniques:
